“When faced with a steam-rolling technology, you either become part of the technology or part of the road”.

Since qualifying as a teacher in 1999, I have held a number of senior academic and pastoral positions in Co-Educational Independent Boarding Schools across the UK. Namely, Academic Head of Department (ICT), Head of Boarding, Housemaster, DSL, E Safety Officer, Health and Safety Officer and Deputy Headmaster.

My subject specialism is ICT. I also teach Business Studies and English. I am a Founding Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching. I have a Master’s Degree in Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Catholic School Leadership, Membership of the British Computer Society and a Professional qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.

I have been an ISI Inspector of Schools since 2012, a role I continue to be active in.

I currently teach Business Studies at Abbey College Manchester, where I also hold the position of E Safety Officer.

My teaching and pastoral experience, together with my CEOP training in 2009 for Ambassador status has presented me with a significant awareness of the challenges faced by young people and adults when using online technology. The ease of which situations can very easily and quickly spiral out of control when using online technology has led to my intervention and liaison with external agencies to address issues and to educate in an attempt to reduce the chances of poor and at times unpleasant experiences from ever happening again and to strive to make their digital footprints positive ones!

I am a passionate advocate of technology and equally as passionate in educating children and adults with regard to the safe and beneficial manner in which to engage and communicate using online technology, to exploit its many capabilities as a powerful tool. I believe in education, rather than regulation. In the world of education, such use of technology has served to enhance the teaching and learning model.

I am responsible for delivering whole school assemblies, year group assemblies, staff training and parent training on matters of E Safety.
